We got a message from a referral source that a member of our staff mentioned that we were not doing any more evaluations this year due to end of year. I am unsure what form that took or if there was a miscommunication, but I wanted to provide some feedback on that either way. If a provider or referral source reaches out to any of us and asks directly for a referral to be evaluated, and there is some concern about whether or not that is possible, regardless of the reason, then the staff member should get a member of management involved to evaluate if the patient can be seen. Telling referral sources that we are unable to schedule initial evaluations, for any reason, is not an appropriate response for a staff member to make. If we are truly unable to accommodate a referral, for any reason, that needs to be evaluated and reviewed by a member of the management team so we can prevent having to turn away a direct provider referral.
